Vexel is a neologism for an entirely pixel-based form of raster artwork that imitates the visual appearance of vector graphics technique i.e. sharp-edged lines and areas of flat colour or smooth gradient fills. The word itself is a portmanteau derived from a combination of “vector” and “pixel“. Vexels are quite flexible to create and there are various methods of creating vexel artworks but the overall process is to stack shapes of a certain shape and color to create a whole image using multiple layers, one can also use gradients, paintbrushes, airbrushes or any free-hand tool like pencil to give it a desired and unique appearance.
